Darlene M. Spencer, 60, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2019, at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born on December 14, 1958, and was the daughter of Marie Walker and the late Clifford Walker. Darlene was born and raised in Newtown and after leaving town for a brief time, found herself living out her dream of raising her two children in town.
She worked at the town library for more than 20 years and as a skybox manager for the Hartford Whalers prior to that, but her most beloved job was being a mother to her two children, to whom she devoted her whole life. She was an active member of the Newtown Congregational Church, where she served as a deacon for several years, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and performed routines in sacred dance.
Music and dance were two of her biggest passions. She started dance classes at Lathrop School of Dance as a little girl and danced there for 34 years. Another passion of hers was being kind to everyone, for if you were ever lucky enough to be greeted by Darlene, it was always with a smile.
Darlene is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Andy Spencer, whom she loved fiercely, as well as their two children, Jeffrey Spencer of Newtown and Karla Hesseltine and her husband, Charlie, of Wolcott. She is also survived by her mother, Marie Walker of Newtown; her brother, Dale Walker and his wife, Carol, of Newtown; her sister, Linda Uhde and her husband, Steve, and godson, Adam Uhde of Newtown. She was predeceased by her father, Clifford Walker.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses that cared for Darlene so incredibly well.
